About
Ronald W. Kristan, MD, is a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon and internationally recognized specialist in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery. With over two decades of surgical expertise and more than 10,000 successful eyelid procedures to his credit, Dr. Kristan has established himself as a leading authority in the precise and delicate art of upper and lower eyelid rejuvenation. Dr. Kristan received his Bachelor of Science degree from New York University before earning his medical degree from the same institution. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Albany Medical Center and pursued specialized fellowship training in eye plastic surgery, also at Albany Medical Center, where he developed the advanced technical skills that define his surgical practice today. Recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Oculo-facial Surgery and certified by the American Board of Eye Surgery in cataract and implant procedures, Dr. Kristan combines rigorous credential standards with an innovative clinical approach. He gained international prominence as the first surgeon in the United States to develop and perform a pioneering laser procedure for tearing, a breakthrough that exemplifies his commitment to advancing the field. His contributions to oculoplastic surgery have been extensively published in peer-reviewed journals, and he regularly presents his research and techniques at prestigious national and international medical conferences. Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Kristan is dedicated to teaching the next generation of ophthalmologists. He has mentored surgeons from around the world, including specialists from Turkey, Italy, and South America, generously sharing his expertise and innovative methodologies. His reputation for excellence has earned him recognition as a Top Eye Plastic Surgeon in New Jersey and honors from NJ Monthly as Best Plastic Surgeon for both blepharoplasty and post-Mohs eyelid reconstruction. He is also recognized in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. Dr. Kristan's commitment extends beyond the operating room. He serves as a board member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and leads the eye care team for medical missions to Hospital de la Familia Nuevo Progreso in Guatemala, bringing sight-restoring care to underserved communities. When not in the operating room or traveling for medical missions, Dr. Kristan enjoys time with family, photography, theater, and art history.
